The locals in Drake Bay are some of the warmest and generous people you will ever meet, many of whom have lived in the area with their families since the 1970’s.

Drake Bay (Bahía Drake) is on the southern Pacific side of Costa Rica’s Osa Peninsula. Famed for its incredible diversity of animal and plant life, the Osa Peninsula is perfect for the nature-lover, the adventure tourist and those looking for a relaxing or romantic getaway in paradise.

Águila de Osa Inn is located at Costa Rica’s Osa Peninsula, situated on a high bluff, overlooking the Aguitas river with panoramic views of Drake Bay, and reaching out into the Pacific Ocean along the southwest coast.

Encompassing Corcovado National Park and Caño Island, two of Costa Rica’s most prized protected areas, is the Osa Peninsula a priceless natural treasure with an abundance of tropical plants, mammals, insects and over 350 species of birds.

Drakebay Getaway

This beautiful area offers possible sightings of dolphins and other marine and aquatic marine life, passing an island nesting spot for the Brown Booby. Our arrival at the beach location of the Corcovado National Park is a wet landing, so bring your sandals in addition to sturdier footwear for the trails through the National Park. Our bilingual naturalist guide will lead a 3 hour hike through the primary and secondary forest, locating and explaining the extensive rainforest wildlife and flora. The rich biological diversity of the Corcovado National Park is astounding, and sightings may include as many as 4 types of monkeys, as well as coatis, sloths, anteaters, and much more. Bird lovers will be enchanted by a wide variety of birds, including tanagers, flycatchers, kingfishers, manakins, trogons, crested guans, and spectacular scarlet macaws and toucans.

During the scenic boat ride, which lasts approximately 1 ½ hrs , enjoy mangrove forest frequent sightings of dolphins, marine birds, as well as — in season — whales, false orcas and sea turtles. The 600 acre island is a significant historical archaeological site for Costa Rica, where two of the miraculous and mysterious perfectly round spheres from the pre-Colombian era were discovered along with other historical items.

Caño Island is an ideal spot for snorkeling, swimming, and relaxing. Two trails are available for light hiking, the first leading to the site of many of the archaeological discoveries, where a few representative artifacts still remain, and the second to a beautiful lookout on the south side of the island. Aquatic life around the island is spectacular, and snorkelers will find a broad and colorful spectrum of Pacific Coast reef fish – triggerfish, trumpetfish, damselfish, parrotfish, angelfish, puffers, among many others — as well as rays and sea turtles.
