Upon arrival to Liberia International airport, we will provide a 4×4 Hyunday Tucson with full cover insurance.  Drive to the beautiful area of Rincon de la Vieja Volcano.  Lodging will be offered at Hacienda Guachipelin in a superior room for 2 nights.  (The package can be offered also with private transfers among destinations)

You’ll find the hacienda surrounded by wealthy gardens with native trees, exotic flowers, a great variety of birds and astonishing views at the Rincón de la Vieja volcano as well as at the Pacific Ocean.

In this ambiance a lot of “adventure” activities are waiting for the alternative tourist who likes to spend his holiday in an active way. The hotel offers the following tours: horseback riding, canopy, tubing at the rapids of the Río Negro, various hiking trails, natural hot water springs, rivers and crystal clear waterfalls, virgin forests with birds, mammals, reptiles and insects. Relaxing volcanic mud pools may close this incomplete list of attractions that you can enjoy while staying at the hotel.

Today you have a free day to take any of the optional tours available such as:  Horseback riding to the beautiful waterfalls, visit of Rincon de la Vieja Volcano, Las Pailas or you may decide to visit it on your onw  (Closed on Mondays).

Rincon de la Vieja

The Guanacaste region is also known for its active volcanoes, tropical dry forests (this is one of the driest areas in Costa Rica), wildlife reserves and national parks. , Rincon de la Vieja National Park is located 27 kilometers to the northeast of the city lf Liberia.

With an extension of a little more than 14 thousand hectares, this national park includes the massif in which Rincon de la Vieja Volcano  is located.  It has two sectors:  Las Pailas and Santa Maria.  It boasts nine cones and one lake:  Los Jilgueros

In comparison to some national parks, Rincon de la Vieja National Park seems designed for human exploration. Described as only gently active, the volcano sees very few minor eruptions. At its base, the park’s acres are threaded with trails and paths leading out to waterfalls, volcanic craters, fumaroles, mud cauldrons and hot springs.

Lodging within this region is characterized by beautiful landscapes, blue waterfalls, hotsprings , mud treatments from the volcano.  Activities available:  horseback riding , hiking tours to the waterfalls and to the park, zip line tours, ATV, and many other adventure and nature activities.

Breakfast included. Drive for around 3 hours to Monteverde region, land of the resplensdent quetzal, lodging will be offered for 2 nights at Heliconia Hotel or similar, breakfast included. Hotel Heliconia is located in Monteverde, a privileged location, that places it near two of the most beautiful protected tropical forests in Costa Rica, the well known Monteverde Cloud Forest Preserve and the Santa Elena Rain Forest Reserve (at six kilometres).

Today we will offer a guided hiking tour at Curicancha Refuge with our local guide Melvin Leiton. You will drive to Curicancha where Melvin will meet you and will start the tour.

Curicancha Reserve

At lower elevations, the Curi-Cancha Reserve covers lowland wet montane forest, while at higher reaches you’ll find premontane cloud forests. The reserve protects a number of impressive bird species, including the resplendent quetzal, orange-bellied trogon, keel-billed toucan, blue-crowned motmot, and blue-throated goldentail. Aside from birds, you may be able to spot armadillos, anteaters, three-toed sloths, coatis, white-faced capuchin monkeys, howler monkeys, and tarantulas.

Five trails wind through the reserve. The trails range in length from 1 to 2.2 kilometers and come in close contact with the various plants that inhabit the reserve. Although the trails are well maintained, they can be muddy and slippery after rain, so be sure to wear sturdy shoes if visiting this reserve. There are several excellent viewpoints along the trails.

Some trails pass open, grassy areas that are excellent places to spot animals. Birds often come to the forest’s edge or rest in individual trees that stand rooted in open ground.

This reserve sees far fewer visitors than the Monteverde and Santa Elena reserves. This makes it a pleasant, low-key place to visit.

Drive for around 3 hours to Arenal Volcano where you will stay for 3 nights at Arenal Paraiso or similar, breakfast included.

Get prepared for an exciting guided hiking tour at the Arenal Hanging Bridges. (bird watching tour)

This amazing project is located in a wonderful rain forest preserve with 250 hectares protected land. You can go into the natural paradise along walking trail of three kilometers passing 15 bridges, six of them are hanging bridges with an spectacular design as a secure – enjoyable adventure to see the forest from the ground (like a Jaguar) from the middle (like as Monkey) and from the treetops (like an Eagle)… One of our hanging bridges is called The Waterfall Bridge and is over 60 meters high off the ground. Another one is called The Tyra Bridge and is 98 meters long, just to give you an idea. In this heaven of nature you can find over 250 species of birds, including some like: The White Hawk, Great Curassow, Rufous Motmot, Rufous-tailed Jacamar, Black-throated Trogon, and many others…

Many reptiles like the: Ferdelance Snake, Boa Constrictor, Basilisks Lizard, Glass Frog, Poison Dart Frog… Amazing mammals like: Howler Monkeys, Spider Monkeys, Tyras, Coatimundis, Three-toed Sloths, White-collared Peccary… Thousands of beautiful insects like: Butterflies, colorful Beatles, amazing Leaf-cutter Ants, or the artistic Web-making Spiders…

One of our major attractions is the Night Walk where you can see a lot such as Olingos, Kinkajous, Bird-eating Tarantulas and beautiful Coral Snakes. As well, once you´re at the Pilón Bridge get a perfect view of have a perfect perspective to see the lava flow from Arenal Volcano… straight ahead… from the treetops!

That’s just the animals, but the diversity of trees plants like, Orquids or Elephant Ears is tremendous and incredible.

Breakfast at the hotel. Today you re going to enjoy an exciting  white water rafting at Balsa River.

Just 45 minutes from La Fortuna! Tour a beautiful section of the Raft River with over 20 rapids class II and III, very fun and safe while enjoying the scenic beauty of the surrounding rainforest. An experienced professional guide will give a safety talk with all the instructions you need, leaving you fully trained to begin this great adventure.
