Rio Celeste Hike
(One day)
Price: .....................$90.00
Pick up time: ..............7:00 a.m
Duration: ...................5 hours
We leave La Fortuna at 7:00 am for this fascinating adventure combining a discovery of nature's magic with the chance to observe wonderful flora and fauna. The tour lasts approximately 10 hours all together and on clear days it's possible to get a view of the Arenal, Tenorio and Miravalles Volcanoes and sometimes even Lake Nicaragua.
The Celeste River zone is one of the most beautiful areas of Costa Rica. On the way we stop for a rest in a picturesque village and then continue on towards the "Rio Celeste" in the Tenorio Volcano National Park. On arriving at the park we set off on a 7km (approximately 4 miles) hike which passes by the River Celeste Lagoon, a great place for taking photographs. Finally we arrive at the river itself where mother nature magically mixes the water of two crystal-clear streams, changing the water's color to a beautiful bright, light-blue (hence the name "Rio Celeste" or Light-Blue River).
Next we continue on to an area with cavities in the earth known as "las ollas" (the cooking pots), full of a clay with therapeutic properties. We get the chance to cover our bodies with this clay and then wash it off in the Tenorio Volcano Thermal Waters!
The hike continues on through the mountains on rough paths into the jungle discovering an area of the volcano where gases are expelled at very high temperatures. At the end of a steep but interesting walk down, we get to see, in all its splendor, the Rio Celeste Waterfall which is impressive not for its size but for its unique colors.
After the waterfall there is a tough hike back to the park entrance where we are served a delicious, well- deserved lunch.

(One day)
Price: .....................$43.00
Pick up time: ..............7:30 to 12:30 or 1:00 to 6:00

The expert bilingual naturalist guide will describe the many different flora and fauna of the region. Along the way it is possible to see 2 species of sloth's, monkeys, 3 species of Toucans, crocodiles, Jesus Christ Lizards, caimans, different colored iguanas, mammals, and a variety of birds.
The second part of the tour includes a stop at the farm of Don Pedro Farm. This is the highlight of the trip for most tourists. Shake his hand; calloused from many years of hard work. He has endured 65 years on what most considered useless farmland, and without roads, electricity, or running water. Our guide will translate as you enjoy a visit with this fascinating man. His family will prepare wonderful Tico snacks for you to enjoy.
Next we journey into the Primary Tropical Rainforest along his farm.if the weather permits. You will be surrounded by trees over 100 hundred years old as we look for more animals including the "Blue Jeans" Poison Dart Frog. Our guide will educate you on the many medicinal purposes of plants in the rainforest. On the trails you can see one of the smallest flying mammals in Costa Rica. You will also learn of the interesting relationship/comparison between frogs and humans.
Finally we re-board the rafts for our final 40 minute float to Boca Arenal while we continue to enjoy the scenery. The return trip to La Fortuna allows you to see the extensive agriculture system of San Carlos County.

(One day)
Price: .....................$49.00

We start with a 45 minute drive to the private farm where the caves are located. Upon arrival you will be given a flashlight & helmet, and fitted for rubber boots (size 11 or larger must wear their own shoes). Our expert bilingual naturalist guide will start with a brief history of the caves.
A short hike later and you are standing in amazement at the river flowing from the cave entrance. There are no lights or walkways, so you will feel as if you are the first person to discover them. Turn on your flashlight, jump into the river, and watch out for those spiders on the walls! There is no turning back now.
It's a little difficult to walk up the river, but that's just part of the adventure. Be prepared to squeeze through small holes, crawl through tight passages, climb small rock formations, crawl on your stomach with only your head above water in a narrow tunnel as fish swim by, or walk up small waterfalls. Feel the air move around your face as of bats fly just above your head. Notice how they have carved their nests out of solid rock. We seldom lose a tourist!
