CAHUITA TOUR $60.00

Cahuita National Park is one of the most beautiful regions of the country. Its main attraction is a picture postcard reality of white sandy beaches, thousands of swaying palm trees, a calm sea of crystal-clear water and a live coral reef.

The Tour consists of a hike through the trail of the National Park of 9 to 11 km. approximately. From our office (Cahuita Tours) in the community of Cahuita, get in to the National Park, through the Sector of White Beach, up to Sector of Puerto Vargas, passing by beautiful and private beaches where you can relax and swim in the calm water of the Caribbean sea for a while.

The Guide will tell you the History of Cahuita Town, also he will show you medicinal plants and a great amount of animals.

The tour ends at the administration of the Sector of Puerto Vargas, where transportation will take you to the restaurant to eat a delicious traditional lunch in the community of Cahuita.

Animals you can possible see:

* Mammals: Howler monkeys, White-faced monkey, two and three toed sloth, racoons, squirrels, anteater beard, armadillos.
*Reptiles: green iguanas, Central American Whiptail, crocodiles and snakes such as: Oropel, Bocaraca, Mica, Boa, Coral, Bejuquilla and others.
*Birds: Little Blue Heron, Boat- Billed Heron, Tricolored Heron, Kingfisher, Common Black

Hawk, Black Vulture, Turkey Vulture, Collared Aracari (Toucan), Hummingbird, Squirrel Cuckoo, Woodpecker, and others.
Other Species: Morpho´s butterflies, spiders, crabs, heliconias, coconut trees, etc.

Snorkeling Tour

You will visit the many unique marine and terrestrial ecosystems of Cahuita National Park; its one of the most beautiful regions of the country. Its main attraction is a picture postcard reality of white sandy beaches, thousands of swaying palm trees, a calm sea of crystal-clear water and a live coral reef. In a glass fiber boat, plus Capitan and guide, you will be able to appreciate: 35 different coral species such as: The fire coral, Elkhorn and the Smooth brain coral; 123 different species of tropical fish such as: Queen Angelfish and Blue parrot fish; 44 species of crustaceans, 140 shellfish, 128 identified algae. Other species such as: sea urchins, sea cucumber, lobsters, sponges, hawksbill turtle and green turtle. You can practice the

snorkelling for 2 or 3 hours, in different places of the most important Coral Reef of Costa Rica.
After the snorkelling, the boat Capitan will take you to Cahuita Point. Right there, if you want, you can swim in the peaceful and warm water of the Caribbean Sea while you take a refreshment of tropical fruits.

Hiking
In this tour there is also the option to enjoy the diversity of

the forest on a hike in the Park where you will see many different species of flora and fauna, such as: Howler monkeys, White-faced monkey, Two-and Three-toed sloth, iguanas, spiders, Morpho’s butterflies, birds, snakes and much more. Cahuita has a mixed forest with a lot of different kinds of trees and medicinal plants such as: Noni, the wonder fruit, which prevents 89 different kinds of illnesses.
The guide will make a hike through the trail of the National Park, showing you the animals and the medicinal plants, and telling you the interesting history of Cahuita Town.

At the end the guide will take you to the restaurant El Típico Cahuita to enjoy a delicious Caribbean Lunch. Rice & Beans, chicken or fish with coconut source, green salad, sweet plantain, dessert and juice.

GANDOCA MANZANILLO  US$ 70.00

 

The Wildlife Refuge is located on the Caribbean Coast near the Panamanian border and hosts innumerable amount of flora and fauna. The Refuge's natural conditions make it an extremely interesting destination for scientists and for nature lovers. Its scenic beauty and its exuberant vegetation shelter a fan of multicolor ethnic groups that have found in this place their home.

In Gandoca- Manzanillo, the forest in its majority is very diverse and colorful where in addition are many species of birds, mammals and other species of the tropical animal. You will have a hiking tour in the reserve for around 2 hours, where you might found the wild inhabitants of the rainforest including: Toucans, trogons, jacamar, plus mammals like the Two-and Three-Toed sloth and monkeys; also you can find river turtles, green iguanas, crocodiles and snakes. Also you can appreciate trees with hundred of years.

Gandoca is one of the most important places in the world for the laying of eggs of the Leather Back Turtle.

Additionally, you can experience how the Afro-Caribbean and indigenous cultures live in harmony with nature.

 Local Traditional Fishing   US$

This tour takes place in the surroundings of Cahuita National Park in a glass fibber boat with outboard motors of 15 to 25 H.P. with local fishermen as guides.

Different fishing methods can be used, for example:
° Fishing using live bait
° Fishing using dead bait or deep fishing
° Fishing using fishing pull and an artificial lure.

It is also possible to enjoy Snorkeling while the guide captures live bait from around the reef.

The types of fish that might be caught include:

°Tarpon
° Barracuda
°Shark

° Grouper
° Jack
° Blue and Green Jack
° Red Snapper
° Mackerel
° King Fish and others.

TOUR TO INDIGENOUS BRIBRI OF THE YORKIN´S ETHNIC COMMUNITY

PRICE  $105.00 per person (transportation included)

  • We start the tour sailing one hour by Telire and Yorkin river (natural border between Costa Rica and Panama), then we walk 20 minutes across the very nice forest before arriving  to the Bribri´s settlement where we can share and know their customs.
  • The tour includes boat transport from the Bambu to Yorkin village and return, a refreshment, the lunch and all daily activities.

 

  • The women of this community began an interesting initiative of overcoming founding an organization for the recovery of the culture, improvement the social assistance and infantile education and the conservation of their natural resources.
  • This group called Estibrawpa (craftswoman), nowadays has managed to be very successful in the indigenous area because they have turned into an example to follow.
We will visit the community and share, around the food, their histories and customs. Also to have a bath in the Skui river, to practice the shot with arch and to take part of the whole cultural chocolate ritual from the collect, the dried and the toasting
  • process to the elaboration of the delicious natural chocolate that we will be able to taste the fresh fruit off the cocoa original plant.

 

VERAGUA RAINFOREST Research & Adventure Park is Costa Rica’s newest tourist attraction!

Located on a 1300-hectare (about 4000 acre) private reserve surrounded by 100% rainforest, the park is a buffer zone for La Amistad National Park (“Friendship National Park”), named so because it is shared between Costa Rica and Panamá.  We are located 2:45 hours away from San Jose and only 1 hour from Port of Limon.

Our naturalist guides will lead you through our reptile vivarium, live frog and butterfly exhibits in an unparalleled interactive set-up, designed under the supervision and scientific expertise of the National Biodiversity Institute (INBio), a world renowned research and conservation organization.

Then you will enter our open-air gondola system that will take you on an enchanting ride through the canopy level of the rainforest.  Upon reaching the river, you will be able to disembark and enjoy a leisurely stroll though the Trail of the Giants alongside the Victoria River. The expedition into the depths of the primary rainforest is capped off with a visit to the magnificent two tiered, 20-meter high Puma waterfall.    

Your adventure continues with a ride back through the rainforest canopy on your gondola Tram and until you reach the biological research station managed by the National Institute of Biodiversity (INBio). Here you will be able to experience the operations of the dedicated researchers and may even be lucky enough to witness the discovery of new plant and animal species, since INBio discovers a new species almost every day!

You will be able to recharge with tropical refreshments at the Rainforest Cafeteria while enjoying the astonishing views.

Veragua Rainforest “One day tour”  US$154.00

San Jose – Veragua Rainforest – San Jose (9 hour tour): San José-Veragua-San José: This is a one day tour full of adventure.  Our shuttle bus will pick you up after breakfast between 6:30 and 7:00 am (depending on your hotel location), for the 2 hour 45 minute drive to the Caribbean side of Costa Rica. We will travel through the  Braulio Carrillo National Park, Chirripó, Reventazón, Pacuare Rivers, all well known for their Whitewater Rafting activities.  During this trip, you will pass cacao, pineapple and banana plantations as well as ornamental plants. 
 

Upon arrival, a naturalist guide will be assigned to you.  You will visit our Reptile Vivarium and see lizards and snakes living in special habitats that have been created to mimic their natural living spaces.  A tour of the Nocturnal Frog Exhibit will fill you with knowledge about the characteristics of these creatures and the important role they play in our environment.   Your visit to our Butterfly garden will be an experience to see some of the most colorful butterflies in the world.

During your tour, you will observe and interact with actual para-taxonomists who are carrying out Veragua/INBio´s research program as part of our commitment to understand and protect the biodiversity of Costa Rica´s Rainforest.  You will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in nature by riding an open tram through the rainforest canopy where you will observe the most impressive views of La Amistad International Park, an ocean view to the Port of Limón, flora and fauna, and other exotic rainforest inhabitants.  Included in your visit will be a stop at our Restaurant for a nutritious lunch.


This journey concludes with a relaxing ride back to San Jose.
